The Artist

Galicia, 1985

Lula Goce was born in Galicia. She grew up under the influence of the coastal salt air, gooseneck barnacles, misty rains and the stunningly beautiful beaches for which this region of Spain is renowned.

At the age of 20 she moved to Salamanca to study a degree in Fine Arts, specialising in painting. From then on, she regularly participated in competitions and received various scholarships, focusing on ephemeral sculpture and painting, in public spaces as well as in museums and galleries.

Durante During this period, she experienced the thrill of taking her work outside the galleries and onto walls, adding a new perspective to the highly structured graffiti scene, creating iconic works on streets and in abandoned buildings.

Lula moved again, this time to Barcelona, where she completed her PhD and Master’s Degree in Artistic creation at Barcelona University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, whilst also studying Graphic Design at the Pauta Centre de Formacio and Illustration at the Escola de la Dona.

In a buzzing atmosphere, Lula was a member of the art groups that evolved in former factories such as Hangar, Caminal or La Escocesa in Poblenou. It was there that she came into contact with and joined the Raw street art group and began to develop her technique on the streets and walls of Barcelona.

Throughout this time she took part in street art festivals around the world, such as New York’s 501 SeeStreet, North West Walls, curated by Arne Quinze in Belgium, Waterford Walls in Ireland, Memorie Urbane in Italy, Zona Maco in Mexico, Street Art Summer in Hannover, Nasimi Festival in Azerbaijan, Poliniza//Dos in Valencia, Twenty Urban Art in Murcia, Mad Cool Festival in Madrid and Bac in Barcelona, among others.

She has also been involved in art centre projects such as the Casa de las Conchas in Salamanca; Santa Mónica Art Centre and the CCCB in Barcelona, Matadero in Madrid, MARCO in Monterrey (Mexico) and the Diego Rivera Museum in Guanajuato (Mexico). Her works have also been exhibited at the DDR Projects Gallery in Long Beach, CA, the Inoperable Gallery in Vienna, the Next Street Gallery in Paris and Street Art Place in Italy.
